Squaredance ist ein Volkstanz, der seinen Ursprung in den USA hat
und mit den amerikanischen Besatzern nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg
nach Deutschland gelangte.
Squaredance besteht in seiner Basis (Mainstream-Programm)
aus ca. 70 Tanzfiguren die aus den Volkstänzen der
verschiedensten Ländern entstanden sind.
Beim Squaredance stellen sich jeweils vier Paare in Form
eines Quadrates auf.
Ein sogenannter Caller gibt den Tänzern im Rhythmus der
Musik die Tanzfiguren vor und die Tänzer müssen diese Tanzen.
Das besondere; außer dem Caller kennt keiner die Reihenfolge
der Tanzfiguren.
Da alle Tanzfiguren eine feste weltweit gültige Definition haben
und die Anweisungen des Callers auf Englisch erfolgen, kann
man nach erlernen des Mainstream-Programmes überall auf der
Welt an Squaredance Veranstaltungen teilnehmen.
